Hello! My name is Nikki Lux (she, her, hers) and I am the Elementary 1 Learning Leader. This means I teach grades 1-3. I am also active on the school’s Governance Committee. I started my teaching career by teaching in an Elementary 2 classroom at another small, public, charter school and completely fell in love with the Montessori Method. I am honored to be in my 8th year teaching at Riverway Learning Community. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Spanish Studies. I have my teaching license for grades K-6, along with a teaching license for teaching 5th-8th grade Language Arts. I also earned my Master of Education degree from the U of M. In addition to traditional schooling, I received my Lower Elementary Certification from Khalsa Montessori in Tucson, Arizona. I am a certified kids-yoga instructor and am currently working towards becoming a Winona County Trauma-informed Educator. I think Riverway is a great school for many reasons, including the families, the sense of community, the focus on protecting and preserving the environment, and because staff appreciate and honor the whole child. In my free time I love to drink coffee; listen to music; read books; and spend time outside with my partner, our 2 year old, and our two dogs. During the pandemic, I know that guardians are going above and beyond to help their students with distance or hybrid learning. However, if you are looking for even more ways to help out our classroom, I encourage parents to share their passions and interests with our students. If working with children isn’t for you, I also often need help with laminating projects.
