Elementary I

In our classroom, students learn to become independent, lifelong learners through our prepared environment and project-based approach. Each day, students receive direct instruction lessons in Language Arts, Math, and Writing, all while students work on individualized assignments during our morning work period. Students have the opportunity to move their body, eat healthy snacks, play music, read, discover new art projects, sew, bake or cook new recipes, and create in the maker´s space. Students will embark on unit studies through our cultural lessons, where they will learn about botany, zoology, geography, and science. Other areas covered include teaching mindfulness, mind-set growth, and Environmental Education. Students will complete hands-on projects and experiments covering all of these areas. Students share their projects twice a year during our student presentation night.

Riverway also encourages using the community as a classroom, so our classes go on lots of field trips or guest speakers come in to share their knowledge and passions. Students are also encouraged to spend time outdoors. Our students have access to over 10 acres of land, a lake, and natural play-scape, and a huge bountiful garden. You may find E1 students out canoeing on a warm day or ice fishing on a cold day. Either way, we play outside everyday rain or shine because we know the importance of play and the outdoors.

At Riverway we care about the whole child, mindy, body, and spirit. If you think this is the right environment for your child, call and schedule an observation toady.
