Vision, Mission & What Makes Us Unique

Our Vision

Inspired Holistic Learning

Our Mission

Riverway Learning Community is committed to the foundation of a more hopeful and enlightened future by the development of an environment that nurtures the growth of mind, body, and spirit, both as individuals and as members of the larger community. Riverway will promote respect for the simultaneous independence and interdependence of all things.

Riverway Learning Community is a charter public school and is therefore open to all students. Importantly, we have unique programs that define who and what we are, so it is important that families not only want an alternative to the local district but specifically want the kind of education we provide.

Our Values

We affirm the uniqueness of the individual and accept differences in all areas of development. We promote excitement and enthusiasm for learning. We believe that education is a process in which each participant forms relationships both as teacher and as learner. We validate individual learning plans and support their development. We value non-judgmental and non-competitive assessment. We believe that education is a lifelong endeavor. We believe the skills necessary to become a lifelong learner are embedded in and activated by the integrative process of systemic thinking and learning. These include competence in the following:

  • the basics: reading, writing, math, sciences, the arts, and computer literacy

  • self-reflective consciousness: thinking about the way we think, the way we make decisions, and reflecting on the consequences of those decisions 

  • the fundamental human capacities for communication and dialogue, cooperation, conflict resolution, empathy, and artistic self-expression 

  • the capacity to live responsibly.

We agree to these principles:

  • We will be respectful

  • We will be responsible

  • We will be peaceful

  • We will be prepared

  • We will be safe
