School Safety at Riverway Learning Community
At Riverway Learning Community, the safety and wellbeing of our students, staff, and families is our highest priority. We are committed to creating a secure, supportive environment where learning can thrive. Our safety protocols are proactive, inclusive, and aligned with best practices in school safety.
Building Security
Locked entrances during school hours to ensure controlled access
Security cameras throughout the facility to monitor activity and support incident response
Visitor check-in procedures to verify identity and purpose before granting access
These measures help us maintain a safe and focused learning environment for all.
Emergency Preparedness
We follow the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) developed by the "I Love U Guys" Foundation. This nationally recognized framework provides clear, consistent actions for students and staff during emergencies, including:
Hold - Stay in place, clear hallways
Secure - Lock outside doors, stay inside
Lockdown - Lock interior doors, lights out, out of sight
Evacuate - Move to a designated location
Shelter - Take protective actions for hazards
Staff and students receive regular training and participate in drills to ensure familiarity and confidence in these procedures.
Reunification Planning
In the event of an emergency that requires students to be released to families in a controlled manner, Riverway uses the Standard Reunification Method (SRM). This process ensures:
Safe and orderly reunification of students with approved guardians
Verification of identity and custody
Clear communication throughout the process
We encourage families to keep emergency contact information up to date and to familiarize themselves with our reunification procedures.
Supporting Safety Through Relationships
Safety is more than physical security -- it's also about emotional wellbeing. Riverway fosters a culture of trust, inclusion, and care through:
Strong student-staff relationships
Proactive mental health supports
Peer leadership and youth voice in school improvement
We believe that when students feel seen, heard, and supported, they are safer and more empowered to learn.
