News Alert! Riverway recently gained official School Forest designation through the DNR! Our School Forest is located at the Winona YMCA’s Camp We-No-Nah, approximately 5 miles from our building and boasts over 130 acres of woodlands, valleys, restored ridge top prairie, a pond, and more. Big THANKS to the Winona YMCA for their invaluable partnership .
By joining the School Forest program, we are able to access resources through the DNR that will benefit our students' education and experience. Stay tuned for more to come on the projects and experiences happening at our School Forest.

Sabine was nominated by Mr. Britton for stepping up this year as a leader among her peers in S2. She has been very welcoming to all of our new students and is the first to volunteer to show new students around and help get them set up for success. She is full of ideas for how to improve things in and out of the classroom, and is always ready to take on new challenges. Sabine embodies Riverway's values and is an excellent example in S2.
Ember was nominated by Ms. Dana for always being a ray of sunshine and a positive role model for others. Ember embodies Riverway values by being a respectful and responsible student. She is always working hard and helping others.
You influence others greatly by your example and we THANK YOU from the bottom of our Riverway Hearts.

Hungry Games Strikes Again!
This week’s French Toast Thursday was more than just a delicious treat — it was a hands-on exploration of food systems, nutrition, and mindful eating, inspired by our reading of The Omnivore's Dilemma.
We've been learning about the impact of corn in the American food system, especially how it influences the diet of chickens, cows, and pigs. To deepen our understanding, we compared eggs from corn-fed chickens with eggs from our very own Riverway hens, which enjoy a diverse diet of fruits, vegetables, and natural chicken feed. We closely observed the differences in yolk color and the clarity of the albumen — the Riverway eggs stood out with their vibrant yolks and firm whites!
We also took a closer look at what goes on our French toast: syrup. After studying the role of high-fructose corn syrup in processed foods, we compared a name-brand "pancake syrup" to real maple syrup. Using our senses, we smelled, tasted, and examined the textures and ingredients — the differences were eye-opening (and taste bud-opening!).
Finally, it was time to cook! Students put their learning into action by preparing and enjoying French toast made with our Riverway eggs and topped with their syrup of choice — a flavorful way to bring together science, sustainability, and good food.
